Baglioni’s industrial powder coating of tanks.

Baglioni’s industrial powder coating of tanks.

All steel tanks require external surface treatment to protect them from corrosion.

Among the various treatments Baglioni offers as a service to its Customers, industrial powder coating is among the most popular.

We use electrostatic powder coating (polyester and epoxy-polyester) for tanks with the purpose of:

  • Give the product a better aesthetic appearance
  • Ensure maximum colorfastness, even in UV light

A treatment that ensures maximum quality and low environmental impact.

Industrial powder coating: the surface treatment for steel tanks

Electrostatic powder coating is an external surface treatment that affects all tanks.

We start with a thorough surface preparation phase with sandblasting to remove any scale, rust, and foreign matter.

After that, the tank is hung on a spinning chain and the powder is applied through an electrostatic process on the tank.

Here begins the actual painting stage with the help of the reciprocator-a machine that, moving from the bottom up, sprays paint onto the tank .

In addition, by means of a toothed wheel, the tank is turned on itself so that paint can be applied effectively on all sides.

Because the reciprocator cannot reach the dark corners, under the bases, around the legs, and under the brackets the powder is applied manually.

Painting by applicator, as opposed to painting by hand, allows greater control and uniformity over thickness (microns) and dust on the tank…

At Baglioni we achieve a dust layer thickness between 80 and 120 microns. Below this limit there is a risk that the underlying metal will still be visible.

The electrostatic potential difference causes the paint particles to stick to the product to be coated.

The painting cycle is completed when the tank is baked in a specific bell furnace. This step, called curing, is critical in order to ensure that the powder clings completely to the reservoir.

The plate is protected before passing under the reciprocator. We carry out manual painting of the same, because it must be legible to identify the manufacturer’s data.
When the tank leaves the kiln, it is unloaded from the chain and packed.

Industrial powder coating: finishes, colors and line capacity

With fifty years of experience, extensive know-how and the use of dedicated equipment for the product itself, we guarantee high quality industrial powder coating.

Depending on the type of powder used, we offer a finish:

  • smooth
  • pitted

We have numerous Ral colors always in stock. Our standard is RAL 5015L – L for smooth, but we offer the possibility of using awide range of colors and about 50 types of RALs.

In CSC we paint tanks with capacities from 100 to 2000 liters, and there are about 40,000 tanks we paint per year in our plant.

We also offer an in-house painting service using methods developed in-house and validated by the customer.

In this case, the tank is attached to a carousel with catenary , and the processing involves:

  • internal pickling
  • external sandblasting
  • interior painting
  • Closure with caps to prevent contamination of the interior paintwork
  • manual painting of license plates
  • license plate cover to protect the reading of the numbers
  • external powder coating with reciprocator
  • baking

At the end of the process, the tank is unhooked from the chain and then packed and shipped.
