Tanks and Digitalization: Baglioni’s 3 Projects to Lead the Change

Tanks and Digitalization: Baglioni’s 3 Projects to Lead the Change

At Baglioni, we know that being a market leader doesn’t just mean excelling today—it means anticipating tomorrow.

This belief drives us to move in two directions.

On one hand, we proactively identify trends and emerging needs—not only to respond quickly to demand but to shape the market rather than react to it.

On the other hand, we take the lead in driving change by developing new standards that make processes more efficient, safer, and more sustainable.

Understanding that change is not just a challenge to face, but an opportunity to lead, positions us as a benchmark in an ever-evolving industry.

This mindset is behind our initiative to digitize the production of compressed air tanks—to create value and build an increasingly competitive industrial future.

The projects we are focusing on all aim to increase cost control and reduce expenses, optimize maintenance management, and drive sales growth.

Specifically, we are working on:

  • The MES Software – Project Camillo
  • The Digitalization of Tank Maintenance
  • The Baglioni Agent Portal

MES Software – Project Camillo

Project Camillo, launched several months ago at the Astra Refrigeranti plant in Casalvolone, involves the development and integration of MES (Manufacturing Execution System) software.

This is a key tool in the Industry 4.0 journey toward digital transformation, allowing us to monitor, control, trace, and analyze the production process.

The MES platform is designed to manage production activities in real time, effectively optimizing every operation and generating essential data across the entire manufacturing chain.

Key functions include:

  • signaling the start and end of each batch through a dedicated interface, eliminating manual entries
  • planning and controlling all production activities
  • tracking quality in compliance with tank regulations
  • monitoring resources and machines for preventive maintenance
  • digitizing shipment management and logistics
  • analyzing KPIs and process data in real time
  • managing raw materials from warehouse entry to final testing

Camillo has been customized to meet Baglioni’s specific needs and integrates with other company systems such as ERP and PLCs.

This system provides a comprehensive and optimized view of the production cycle and greater responsiveness to anomalies, reducing production time and costs while increasing operational flexibility.

It’s an extremely innovative project that is already having a significant impact—streamlining and enhancing our work—and will gradually be rolled out to all Group plants.

2. Digitalization of Tank Maintenance

The tank maintenance digitalization project is a strategic initiative aimed at implementing, again at the Casalvolone plant, an advanced plug & play software.

This technology supports structured, efficient, and predictive management and monitoring of maintenance activities, replacing the traditional approach based on technicians’ memory and “breakdown maintenance” (intervening only when failures occur).

Thanks to this software, all maintenance activities at the plant are now scheduled, bringing major benefits in the short, medium, and long term:

  • simplified organization and control of all maintenance tasks
  • fewer unexpected failures, emergency interventions, and downtimes
  • better asset management and maintenance scheduling
  • centralized tracking of interventions, especially for safety components (also via SharePoint)
  • optimized resource management and equipment efficiency
  • lower operational costs through predictive maintenance
  • maximum safety
  • extended lifespan of machinery

The new system is currently in use at this first Baglioni facility and is being continuously monitored to assess performance and future development.

If proven effective, it will be extended to all Group plants—a milestone that will enable a unified, standardized approach to maintenance and a shift to a proactive and predictive model that boosts safety, efficiency, and sustainability.

3. The Baglioni Agent Portal

The Agent Portal is an innovative software tool developed to streamline and simplify the sales process for our agents.

Using a tablet, each agent can:

  • check tank availability in real time
  • place orders directly into the company’s ERP system
  • receive instant order confirmations

This system eliminates the need for phone calls and email exchanges between agents and logistics staff to check availability and manage orders, making the entire process faster, smoother, and more automated.

Agents can now manage the entire workflow independently, making the company itself more efficient and responsive.

Like all innovation-driven solutions, the Agent Portal undergoes fast iterations to adapt to the market it aims to serve. For this reason, we don’t expect it to be ready for the market before 2026.

The Baglioni Agent Portal represents a step forward in digitizing our sales network, bringing important advantages:

  • reduced logistical workload and manual tasks
  • faster response times for customers
  • smoother order management
  • enhanced engagement with agents through innovative digital support

The long-term goal is to optimize warehouse management and strengthen the company’s competitiveness, also by attracting new professionals thanks to cutting-edge tools that give us a competitive edge—we are the first company in this sector to offer this kind of service and support.
