Baglioni and Workplace Safety: Progress in Near Miss Reporting

Prevention is better than cure. But at Baglioni, prevention also means innovation.
We’ve always considered workplace safety not just a priority, but a daily commitment—one we build together through a solid system shared by all our employees.
With this spirit in mind, we decided to enhance one of our most strategic tools: the reporting of Near Misses.

What Are Near Misses?

A Near Miss is an unexpected event that could have caused injury or damage but—thanks to fortunate circumstances—did not result in any actual harm.
Identifying and promptly reporting a Near Miss means:

  • taking action in advance
  • learning from avoided incidents
  • strengthening prevention

In other words, it’s a concrete way to foster a culture of active and responsible safety—something we deeply value at Baglioni.

What Was Done in 2024 for Near Misses: A Smoother and More Transparent Process

Throughout 2024, we developed a new Near Miss reporting platform. The goal?
To make our reporting system more accessible, effective, and integrated with our corporate tools.

Key new features of the platform include:

  • greater automation of workflows, reducing handling times
  • integration with other internal systems for comprehensive monitoring
  • an intuitive interface accessible from any device
  • smart notifications and customizable dashboards to view data in real-time

This evolution makes reporting simpler, faster, and more inclusive—reinforcing our shared commitment to a safer work environment.
Alongside the technological upgrade, we also revised our organizational approach during 2024.

The change was supported by team coaching initiatives, which strengthened a culture of shared responsibility and encouraged dialogue among Plant Managers, supervisors, and operators.
But what were the results?

Over the past year:

  • the number of Near Miss reports increased, a sign of greater trust in the system
  • the average response time decreased
  • injuries linked to previous events were reduced
  • the quality of reports improved, thanks in part to more targeted training content

Looking Ahead to 2025: New Features and Greater Engagement for Near Misses

Throughout 2025, we will continue to strengthen our Near Miss reporting system.
Specifically, we aim to:

  • increase engagement among production operators
  • introduce dynamic reports with customizable metrics
  • extend team coaching programs across all levels of the company

Our goal is to reinforce a more proactive and conscious approach to safety—where everyone can make a concrete contribution to prevention.
That’s why we’re working to optimize the existing framework while promoting meaningful discussions among various roles in the organization.

Near Miss reporting is not just a technical tool—it’s an act of shared responsibility. Because for us, safety is built together. Every day.
