Il Metodo KANBAN nella gestione delle richieste di serbatoi industriali Baglioni

The KANBAN Method in the management of Baglioni tank requests

The KANBAN Method in the management of Baglioni tank requests

The KANBAN Method is a lean production management system that is based on visualizing current activities and controlling workflow.

Baglioni Group plants are equipped with adaptable computer systems and new product management methods.

This allows us to handle custom logistics and adapt to customer needs with supplies in KANBAN.

Specifically, it is an element of the Just In Time (JIT) technique that enables companies to move from Push to Pull management to improve the supply chain and achieve:

  • virtuous management of resources
  • a reduction in waste
  • An alignment of production capacity with demand
  • A decrease in waiting time between trials
  • An optimization of cost and time of business activity

KANBAN is a systematized information circulation model originating in Japan and has been developed since the 1950s by Toyota.

Originating in industrial manufacturing, over time it has incorporated aspects untethered from production and is now also used in other sectors, such as services, logistics and project management.

Therefore, its function is to improve the efficiency of production processes by controlling production orders and making procurement and stock replenishment more efficient.

How the KANBAN Method Works

In the KANBAN method, information travels in step with the flow of processes.

In the development done by Toyota, it involves the use of physical cards or tags (called kanban), which contain all the data that identify each product, including:

  • item code
  • department
  • supplier
  • customer
  • material
  • description with drawing or photograph
  • previous and subsequent processes
  • quantity

First, these tags are placed on the material to be monitored, with visual management of the production flow.

Then, each time a stage is completed, the tag is moved to the next processing stage, thus signaling the need to produce new goods or to move ready goods.

This way everyone can see the status of activities in real time, understand what the priorities are, and work in a coordinated and functional way.

Thus, KANBAN is the engine of the company’s activity to automatically manage the daily work orders, enabling managers to deal with critical issues and develop system improvements.

But that’s not all: it also facilitates the circulation of information throughout the production process (up to and including involving suppliers) to avoid overproduction and optimize the entire process.

Therefore, to implement the KANBAN system, it is necessary to precisely define the stages of the production process and determine the quantities of material to be produced at each stage.

In addition, it is important to choose the type of KANBAN best suited to your needs and ensure that all team members are properly trained in the use of the system.

The KANBAN Method: the benefits for companies

The KANBAN method is used for necessary activities only when there is actually a need as production is “calibrated” according to customer demand.

In fact, the goal is to be able to plan, manage, and control the materials supply process efficiently and functionally, in real time and visible to all.

In other words, this brings Companies significant benefits:

  • Improved productivity: The KANBAN method makes it possible to quickly identify any blockages in the production chain, enabling timely action to resolve them. Among other things, it avoids incorrect or nonconforming part entry into the flow
  • Waste Reduction: By visualizing the workflow, the KANBAN method reduces waste of materials, time and resources, resulting in an economic benefit to the company and optimizing delivery time and thus efficiency
  • Quality improvement: by identifying the most resource-intensive activities and being able to intervene in a timely manner, it allows the quality of the final product and service to be improved.
  • Improved communication: The KANBAN method fosters communication among team members, enabling them to share information in real time and take timely action to resolve any issues
